About the The Hague Grand Prix
The Hague Grand Prix is part of the IJF World Tour and is therefore one of the fifteen most important events in the international judo top. The Dutch Judo Federation (JBN) and the city of The Hague have successfully secured the Grand Prix to the Netherlands for the coming four years. In 2018 and 2019 valuable ranking points can be earned in the qualification process to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The presence of national and international top athletes is guaranteed because of this. The Dutch Judo Federation have annually organised a IJF Grand Prix in the Netherlands up until 2011. The union has also been a World Cup judo host (Rotterdam 2009). The Hague has organised the European Championship before (1996).
‘The IJF immediately recognised that the Netherlands, as a distinguished judo country, should have a tournament. The Grand Prix in the Netherlands is a clear victory for the judo sport, our top judokas and judo fans. This Grand Prix shall mean a lot to the top sport; the home advantage is great for our athletes. In addition, the grassroots sport gives a lot of energy, especially in a judo city as The Hague”, according to the Dutch Judo Federation chairman, Felix Thieme.
